CONTRARY MARY (Davisson-J. 2024)

CONTRARY MARY is a 7 1/2" bud-building rose pink with a cream pink watermark and large deep-set ruffles highlighted by fine pink edges. It wasn't exactly the outcome I expected by crossing A HEART APART with a seedling ((MAKE IT SNAPPY x UNKNOWN) X (LOUD GIRLS x WALT LOWRY)). Despite the rounder form, the tall and stately 38" scapes with their widely spaced 3-way branching averaging 17 buds won me over by doling out picturesque blooms over a long season. CONTRARY MARY is easily fertile both ways even in hot weather producing fat, full seedpods. Starts blooming in the mid-season and has beautiful dormant foliage. Tetraploid.
